They may come from different backgrounds and have distinct preoccupations in life, but it seems that many people simply cannot tell the difference between Zooey Deschanel and the “I Kissed a Girl” singer Katy Perry. It’s unnerving, the actress and singer tells MTV, to be always compared to Perry, and she would completely love it if people started paying more attention and saw that they’re actually quite different.

Speaking with MTV, the jazzy singer and actress says that, while the comparison was a fun thing at first, in time, it really came to bother her. This is all the more annoying since she, unlike Katy, does not go out much and certainly does not party the night away in clubs. Having people tell her that they saw her in the papers or on TV causing mayhem in some club is a bit more than she can take right now, Zooey shares.

“It’s a little bit annoying, to be totally blunt. The only similarity that we have is that we look a bit alike.” Zooey tells MTV. “I used to get, ‘I heard you were out at such-and-such club drinking whiskey!’ [when] I was at home watching TV.” the actress adds. Of course, that is not to say that she has anything against Katy’s lifestyle or how much she parties – it’s just that she wishes people would stop getting the two mixed together, Zooey stresses.

“I think we lead very different lives. At some point I feel like this will stop being a thing. I like the way my life goes. It’s sort of strange to be associated with someone that’s doing such different stuff than me. It’s weird.” the 29-year-old star further explains. In fact, the two are so different, that Zooey is now about to take some time off from the spotlight to do some soul-searching, as opposed to Katy, who is living the moment. “I took a little bit of a break... It’s a good direction to go as I approach 30. I’ve been writing a lot and we’ve been doing some recording. I’m in an input phase.” Deschanel adds.

Of course, despite the fact that Katy is more outgoing, that does not mean that she is in any way not responsible or careless. In fact, she, of all people, knows that what is here today can be gone tomorrow, as she admits in her latest interview for Paper magazine. “There are about five hundred other girls who are trying to and dying to be in my position – I can’t take anything for granted. It’s all about work – it has to be.” Katy revealed about her priorities at the moment.
