Actress and singer Zooey Deschanel rarely makes headlines for her personal life but, every once in a while, it does happen. This seems to be the case today, when confirmation has emerged that her divorce is now final.

Zooey married Death Cab for Cutie singer Ben Gibbard in 2009 but, at the beginning of 2012, they had already realized theirs would not be the “happily ever after” kind of fairytale.

They filed the divorce papers, citing, according to TMZ, “irreconcilable differences” as the cause of the split.

“It’s official – Zooey Deschanel and her Death Cab for Cutie singer husband Ben Gibbard are finally divorced,” TMZ confirms.

It also offers a bit more details about the proceedings, which clearly indicate that the separation was of the amicable kind.

“Zooey filed for divorce in January, blaming the split on ‘irreconcilable differences.’ She and Gibbard were married in 2009 and have no kids. A judge signed off on the divorce decree on December 12th,” the celebrity e-zine writes.

“According to the divorce docs, both Zooey and Ben waved their rights to spousal support,” TMZ further says.

However, this should not be that surprising, considering that both make enough money not to rely on spousal support for various expenditures.

Zooey’s fortune is estimated at $3 million (€2.27 million) and she has “basically zero debt,” the same media outlet writes, after seeing the divorce papers.

“As for Ben – Death Cab ain’t exactly a garage band,” TMZ says of the actress’ husband.

As noted above, Deschanel is known for keeping her private life private. She never spoke about her relationship or her marriage, let alone about the reasons it didn’t work out as planned.

Not even when she filed for divorce did she issue a statement like many other celebrities do, even though fans showed plenty of interest in the news.

Chances are she won’t change and do that now that the divorce is final.
