If there ever was a perfect time to visit Roger Williams Park Zoo in Rhode Island, US, this might just be it. Thus, word has it that this facility is now home to a young Matschie's tree kangaroo that is nothing short of adorable.

According to Zoo Borns, the joey, a picture of which is available above, is a female. Its caretakers have named it Holly and, much like its mom, seem unable to get enough of it.

Truth be told, this tree kangaroo joey has been around for quite some time now. More precisely, it was born back in October 2013, the same source tells us.

Caretakers kept its birth a secret for so long due to the fact that tree kangaroos are extremely vulnerable during their first few months of life, and they did not want to make a big fuss before they knew for sure the joey was going to survive.

Wildlife researchers explain that Matschie's tree kangaroos are native to Papua New Guinea. They live in forests in this part of the world, and the International Union for Conservation of Nature presently considers them to be an endangered species.

Conservationists estimate that just 2,500 such tree kangaroos are currently left in the wild, and they blame logging and mining activities for this drop in the overall headcount for this species.
