Little over a week ago, on August 1, a 4-year-old giraffe living at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado gave birth to an adorable calf.

Veterinarians closely monitored the delivery, and say that Msitu had no trouble giving birth to its offspring. The family appears to be doing great, and the calf is both health and strong.

“Watching a giraffe birth is amazing and startling all at the same time. Giraffes give birth standing up, so their baby enters the world with a six foot fall to the ground.”

“They need that fall to stimulate them to start breathing, but it still makes you hold your breath when they drop,” keeper Amy Schilz told the press.

The baby giraffe is a female, Zoo Borns reports. It hasn't been named yet, and zoo staff explain they'll take care of finding a suitable name for it once it is 30 days old.
