Earlier this month, on February 14, a giraffe living in captivity at Planckendael Zoo in Belgium delivered an adorable calf.

Keepers say that, probably because it was born on Valentine’s Day, the baby giraffe sports a heart-shaped spot on its right haunch. Zoo Borns reports that the calf was born to mother Barbie, and is its fourth offspring. By the looks of it, the giraffe had a fairly easy labor, and the newborn calf did not take long to get up and start nursing.

As far as vets and caretakers can tell, the baby giraffe and its mom are both in good health, and have bonded well with one another.

For the time being, staff at the zoo are unable to say whether the calf is a boy or a girl. Hence, they have not named it.

The giraffe family is to remain in an indoor enclosure for several weeks, and will only be allowed to go outside once local weather becomes somewhat warmer.
