Staff at Zoo Miami in the United States is pleased to announce that the facility is now home to five adorable baby African red river hogs.

The piglets are the first of their kind to have even been born at Zoo Miami, and vets who have had the chance to examine them say that they are all in good health.

Zoo Borns tells us that the five piglets were born on February 28 to mom Penny. The latter has never been a parent before but appears to have motherhood all figured out.

For the time being, the baby hogs and their mother live in an off-exhibit enclosure. What's more, they are separated from the rest of the group, and not even the piglet's dad, 2-year-old Baloo, is allowed to see them.

Keepers at Zoo Miami say that, as soon as the piglets become a tad more confident and grow accustomed to their surroundings, they will be allowed to meet their dad and the rest of the group.

For those unaware, this species is native to western and central Africa. It thrives in rainforests, wet savannas, and close to waterways.

They usually live in groups of up to 20 individuals whose members get along quite well with one another. They feed on roots, fruits, even insects and small animals.
