Add another strange way to lose weight fast to the already very long list of “tricks,” most of which verge on the excessively unhealthy: actress Zoe Kravitz has revealed that, in order to lose about 20 pounds (9.07 kg) for a new movie role, she started drinking clay.

Actress Shailene Woodley of the “Divergent” and “Fault in Our Stars” fame has already made plenty of headlines in recent months for saying she eats clay regularly (she even brushes her teeth with it) because of its health benefits, which include removing toxins from the body.

However, in Zoe’s case, she didn’t eat it because she was trying to get healthier: she drank it because she was trying to get even skinnier than she already was and, at the same time, to attain that unhealthy air.

You see, in “The Road Within,” which is now running in select theaters, Kravitz plays a young woman who develops anorexia and bulimia.

“I did a cleanse,” the actress told Us Weekly at the film’s LA premiere. “I tried to do it the healthiest way as possible, even though it's not healthy to do. I ended up drinking clay, because it cleans out your body and fills you up. I was eating like a Mason jar of pureed vegetables a day and running.”

In the end, she got to lose weight but the experience was downright “awful.” Not only would Kravitz never repeat it again, but she would also never “encourage anyone” to do the same. Women are already under constant pressure to look “perfect” without risking their health as well.

Zoe knows a lot about that pressure too.

“I've struggled with it myself in the past,” she reveals. “I think all young women do. There are a bunch of images that are thrown in our faces all the time about what we're supposed to look like at 14, 15, 16. It's confusing. I think every woman can identify with that struggle.”

The clay cleanse must be relatively new because Zoe Kravitz is the first high-profile celebrity to speak of it and of its results. A celebrity favorite remains the cayenne pepper / maple syrup / lemon water (with daily doses of laxatives), but usually all kinds of juice detoxes are a hit with celebrities – and men and women in general looking to boost their metabolism and drop a few pounds quickly.

The merits of these cleanses in the long run remain debatable.
