Jake Gyllenhaal knocked out one of his own teeth, while filming for his new war movie Jarhead.

The actor portraying a real-life US Marine, Anthony Swofford, in the Gulf War drama.
Gyllenhaal, who got used to suffer for his art, has injured himself while filming an intense fight scene.

"I jammed a gun into my mouth, and I guess I did this really, really hard because I was so into the emotions of the scene" he confessed.

"Suddenly, I looked down and saw my tooth had been knocked out - it was in my hand - and blood was starting to flow... but I didn't even care at that moment", Jake added.

Gyllenhaal had the tooth re-inserted since.

The actor is currently filming in San Francisco for his upcoming movie Zodiac, which is due for release in 2006.
The David Fincher - directed flick, based on the true-crime books Zodiac and Zodiac Unmasked by Robert Graysmith, was scripted by James Vanderbilt (Darkness Falls).
The movie revolves around the investigation of the self-nicknamed serial killer, who terrorized San Francisco during the '60s and '70s.

Gyllenhaal, who has recently declared that the director is "going pretty dark with this one", plays San Francisco Chronicle reporter Graysmith, who became drawn into the case after receiving taunting letters from the murderer, according to Fangoria.

"Fincher "is doing stuff on this film that I've never seen done before. Technically speaking, he's extraordinary. He's shooting on this Viper[digital video] camera, so we don't have any slates or anything like that-we just blow through takes and start over again", Gyllenhaal revealed.

"[Fincher has] done these murder scenes unlike any I've seen before. He's true exactly to the inch or centimeter of what actually happened. So it's going to look and feel exactly like it happened in real life. It's going to be terrifying", he added.

Zodiac also stars Robert Downey, Jr. (as one of Graysmith's fellow reporters), Mark Ruffalo (as a homicide detective), Chloe Sevigny (AMERICAN PSYCHO) and Bijou Phillips (VENOM).
