As nine protesters are arrested over post-Zimmerman verdict protests in Oakland, owners of local businesses are left paying for the damage.

Windows have been smashed, fires have been lit and cars have been stumped, the Huffington Post reports.

The owner of the Awaken cafe, Cortt Dunlap, has decided that he could take this opportunity to discuss his own views on the matter.

He saw his windows smashed and onlookers snapping photos of them. He responded by taping a message on crime over one of the windows.

He mentioned that 28 percent of African American males are likely to commit a crime for which they would spend their life in prison.

“What we really should be talking about is not the window. We decided to put the focus back on what really matters,” he says.
