Zii TRINITY, a New Platform for Android and Plaszma OSes

ZiiLABS, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Creative Technology Ltd., announced today the launch of Zii TRINITY, a 3.5G/4G smartphone and development platform that features support for the Android operating system, as well as for the native Linux-based Plaszma OS. The Zii TRINITY platform comes with support for High Definition 1080p video output, as well as for accelerated 3D graphics, offering OEMs and ODMs the possibility to quickly deliver Android and Plaszma- based solutions.

According to the company, the ZiiLABS ZMS-05 and ZMS-08 media-rich applications processors are based on the ZiiLABS StemCell Computing array, which can offer multi-format media processing. Moreover, the processors are said to be capable of offloading the ARM CPU, so as to enable low-power media processing. The OpenGL ES 3D graphics present with the solution will enable the development of rich 3D experiences that include user interfaces, games or navigation solutions.

ZiiLABS also announced that the Zii TRINITY Platform could be used as a complete design package that includes schematics, Board Support Package, mechanical drawings, Gerbers, middleware and OS. Furthermore, a Zii Development Kit ‘3G Phone Edition’ with support for the ZMS-05 and ZMS-08 processors offers innovation possibilities around the Zii TRINITY platform. In addition, the company aims at offering a Zii Development Kit Phone Edition for the 4G networks.
