After hearing about the incident in the World Cup final, Zidane's mother was pretty angry. Actually, she witnessed the whole thing on TV and knew that her son couldn't have done what he did with no reason. And she waited for her son to tell her. Now, we don't really know if he did tell her, but what we found out from the English media is that she launched a serious attack on the Italian defender.
"I want his b.lls on the table", is what some of her friends have heard her saying after
reading the newspapers the day. When she read the articles concerning Materazzi's insults, Zizou's mother went crazy, according to some of her friends: "He has no right to say that. Who the hell does he think he is? If what is written here is true, I want his b.lls on the table. There is no excuse for what he said. Even if it is inside the football field, my son does not have to hear those things".
Malika Zidane did not stop here. After having to spend almost a week in the hospital - and she is still under medical observation - she wanted to show to the world that she agrees with her son's decision and praised that everyone should do the same in that situation: "I am very proud of my son. His reaction was totally influenced by what that man said. He defended his family's honor".
Zidane's mother was taken to the hospital just days before the World Cup finals. Her medical situation was a very delicate subject to Zidane, since the player is known to have an incredibly close relationship with his mom. More, a French Football Federation official said that: "talking trash about Zidane's mom when she is lying in the hospital bed is certainly not the cleverest thing to do, no matter where you are, inside or outside the field".
Zidane comes from an immigrant Algerian family, and reportedly had to suffer a lot from that during his football career. Most of the times he received the red card - 13 times in career - was because he responded to racist-related insults.
