The operating system will be supported until 2019

ZevenOS, a Linux operating system with software optimized for slower computers and with elements of BeOS based on Xubuntu, has just reached version 6.0.

ZevenOS is a very light system based on Ubuntu and that means it has access to the Ubuntu repositories. It's been around for some time, but it doesn't get the same kind of attention its big brother Neptune does. In fact, the previous version of ZevenOS was released all the way back in December 2013, so some time might go by before we get the chance to see it again.

That is the main reason behind the choice of the code name for this distribution, "Goodbye Edition." The developers have used Ubuntu 14.04 LTS as the base, which is supported until 2019 and that is a very long time. They are hoping that the base will be more than enough to keep the distribution alive.

ZevenOS 6.0 "Goodbye Edition" is light and funny looking

ZevenOS offer its users a rather different experience. With a launcher on the left side of the screen, a simple file manager, and a wide collection of applications, it's hard not to like this distribution, despite the fact that it actually looks rather old and out of place.

"This release is based upon Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and will be supported for 5.0 years. As ZevenOS 5.0 was released more than a year ago this new version brings in many changes like the Kernel 3.13, Xorg 7.7 and Pulseaudio 4.0. All the tools you love from ZevenOS are back again in updated versions. OpenShot was updated to 1.4.3 with new melt backend. InkScape to 0.48.4, Abiword to 3.0 and so much more," the makers of this distro are saying.

More details about this new release can be found in the official announcement. You can download ZevenOS 6.0 right now from Softpedia and give it a spin. It's a Live CD and it works just fine in a virtual environment.
