Zenwalk Linux 6.4 "Live" has been released. The Live CD version of the latest Zenwalk release is now available for download, three months after the regular Zenwalk Linux 6.4 was launched.

Zenwalk Linux 6.4 "Live" will enable users to get a taste for the Linux distribution without the investment of having to install it on their systems. The advantage of this is obvious.

The Live edition is in line with the regular release, it features the same packages and the Xfce desktop environment, with the addition of packages and technologies exclusive to the live environment.

"I am happy to announce Zenwalk Live 6.4, which will allow more people to discover the fastness and simplicity of Zenwalk without having to install it first," Jean-Philippe Guillemi wrote in the official announcement.

"It's consisting of standard Zenwalk ISO packages following the main Zenwalk release with same set of applications, latest XFCE desktop, and soon," he added.

One of the differences between the regular release and the Live CD version, obviously, is the "Livekernel" which features support for aufs and SquashFS 3.4 along with LZMA compression.

There are also a few more localizations for Icedove and Icecat, the rebranded versions of Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird. Zenwalk Linux 6.4 Live also features customized artwork for GDM and the bootsplash.

"Zenwalk Live is one of the first live distribution using the brand new Slackware-Live-Scripts on which Zenwalk Live releases will be based from now on," the developer explained.

The Live CD modules work with both Slackware-Live-Scripts and Linux-Live-Scripts, Zenwalk says.

Zenwalk Linux 6.4 Live can also be deployed to a USB drive enabling users to boot from that rather than a CD.
