Nintendo is the last of the big gaming companies that also create consoles that held its press conference at the E3 2011 trade show and everyone is eager to hear details about the successor to the Nintendo Wii, which is codenamed Project Café and is rumored to include a touch screen in the controller.

But Nintendo is one of the publishers with a deep bench of important franchises and none is bigger this year that Zelda, which celebrates 25 years of life, giving the publisher a great chance to satisfy fans with new releases and attract new blood to Zelda and to the new Nintendo 3Ds handheld.

Shigeru Miyamoto, who is the father of the Zelda franchise, took the stage at E3 2011 in order to say that the Wii based Zelda, called Skyward Sword, is set to be launched in time for the holiday season of the year and will come in a package that includes a celebratory gold plated Wii remote to play the game with.

Zelda lovers can also look forward to the DSiWare powered launched of Four Swords, which will be free for all those who use the service, although it is not clear whether the company also plans to bring it to the new 3DS eShop.

Players who own the new 3DS handheld can enjoy Link’s Awakening with complete three dimensional effects from today.

Miyamoto also mentioned that this fall special 25 year Zelda concerts will take place all over the world, just as a full orchestra was playing pieces of music from the game at the Nintendo E3 2011 event.

It will be interesting to see how the launch of Skyward Sword will affect sales of the Nintendo Wii home consoles and if the long running series will be able to attract gamers this late in the life of the device.
