Those who watch might use the handheld as a companion device

Eiji Aonuma, the leading producer working on the Zelda series, says that he has discussed the possibility of creating a movie based on the franchise with designer Shigeru Miyamoto and that a decision will be made in the near future.

The developer believes that such a product would need to reflect the core ideas of the games, but would also require a new and innovative use of interaction with the fans who watch it.

He tells Kotaku that, “like you’re able to take your 3DS into the theater and that leads you into participating in it somehow. We wouldn’t want to make it the same as any other movie. We want to somehow change what a movie is.”

A Zelda movie might be one of the most expensive projects that Nintendo has ever invested in.

Fans of the series can pick up The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds later this year and pre-orders get some players access to a special music box.
