On March 26 of this year, tragedy struck as Zayn Malik officially announced that he was leaving One Direction. To the millions of fans who saw Zayn Malik's departure as the end of an era, a word of comfort from Stephen Hawking: in a parallel universe, he's probably still with the band.

Appearing in holographic form at the Sydney Opera House in New South Wales, Australia, over the weekend, on Saturday, the renown theoretical physicist spoke of the possibility of a parallel universe where Zayn Malik is still a member of One Direction.

Even better, Stephen Hawking went on to suggest that each and every of the singer's fans can hope that, in a parallel universe that is yet to be discovered by science, they are happily married to him. Check out the video below for the physicist’s full theory on how Zayn Malik might still be with the band.

“It would not be beyond the realms of possibility that somewhere outside of our own universe lies another different universe, and in that universe, Zayn is still in One Direction,” Stephen Hawking said when asked about the cosmological effect of Zayn leaving One Direction.

The surest way to find whether such a blissful parallel universe exists? Keep a close eye on advances in theoretical physics, as it is this branch of science that has the best chances to deliver proof of alternate universes in the years to come, Stephen Hawking stressed.

The conference wasn't all about Zayn Malik

During Saturday's appearance at the Sydney Opera House, Stephen Hawking talked about black holes and other mysteries of deep space. He also addressed issues like global warming and warned that, in about 1,000 years, Earth might no longer be able to support us.

The theoretical physicist further argued that, to even stand a chance of surviving as a species, mankind must step up efforts to colonize other planets, be it in our Solar System or beyond it.

Interestingly, Stephen Hawking also discussed his biopic, Academy award-winning film “The Theory of Everything,” and said that he was quite pleased with how the movie turned out and with how he was portrayed in it.

“It was surprisingly honest about our marriage,” the theoretical physicist told the people attending the conference. “It was as close as I’ll ever get to traveling back in time,” he added.
