Aquaman is perhaps the least famous superhero from the DC Comics universe but, according to “Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice” director Zack Snyder, he’s also the most misunderstood. There’s a lot of potential to Aquaman but that’s not to say he’s about to show it off in Snyder’s upcoming film.

For months, rumors have been saying that Jason Momoa will be playing Aquaman in “Batman V. Superman” and, for just as many months, Warners and Snyder have been going out of their way not only to deny Momoa’s involvement in the film but even the fact that Aquaman will be part of the superhero cast.

By the looks of it, Snyder isn’t about to change his story anytime soon. He called in on Detroit’s 97.1 The Ticket’s Stoney and Bill radio show the other day (audio is available at the link), merely to speak up for Aquaman.

Despite what comic book fans might say bad about him, he’s actually a pretty neat superhero.

“I don’t want to give anything away about the movie, but Aquaman has some cool abilities. People are like: ‘Oh, what? Does he talk to animals? Cause that seems like what he does. Or fish?’ The cool thing with Aquaman is he’s Triton, so you have to realize that could cut the flesh of Superman if they came in contact. He’s super strong,” Snyder says.

Wait, what?! Is Snyder saying that, in this new film, Superman won’t go up against just Batman (hence the “Batman V. Superman” title) but also Aquaman? Will the challenges for Superman never end?

“It's not to say that he's in the movie or anything like that. But he has the potential to be [awesome],” the director is quick to add.

Snyder also directed last year’s “Man of Steel,” the Superman reboot, which introduced Henry Cavill as this beloved comic book character. “Dawn of Justice,” which is coming out on March 25, 2016, isn’t the direct sequel to “Man of Steel” but the first Justice League movie, as its title also suggests, the one that will lay the foundation for the long-awaited Justice League universe.

Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman have already been confirmed for the film, but there’s a lot of talk online that Aquaman will also be introduced to audiences on this occasion – and Snyder’s passionate defense of the character certainly seems to point towards this as well.

Whether that will happen with Momoa on board or not still remains to be seen, but as these things go, with projects as big as this one, it’s very difficult to keep a secret for longer. In other words, if the Momoa rumor has been around for so much time, it’s probably because he’s really playing the part.
