Frank Miller’s "300" has finally found a
director to take it to the big screen for warner, where the project has been languishing over.
According to AICN, the "Dawn of the Dead" remake director Zach Snyder plans to shoot the movie, based on the multi-acclaimed graphic novel about the Battle of Thermopylae and the origins of democracy, reports CommingSoon.net.
The story set in the midst of the Persian-Greco war revolves around the 480 B.C. Battle of Thermopylae, where Spartan king Leonidas led his army of 300 soldiers into battle against the invading Persian army. According to legend, their valor and sacrifice inspired all of Greece to unite against their Persian foe, leading to the origins of democracy.
Mark Canton, one of the producers, thinks the movie is "really an anti-epic". "It has major themes of freedom, democracy and brotherhood that are very much in keeping with the world today", Canton added.
Shooting is set to take place exclusively in the Vancouver studios in the fall.
The budget for "300" stands at around $60 million.
