Chinese mobile phone maker ZTE Corporation appears determined to bring to the market in India half a dozen new smartphones capable of offering 3G and 4G connectivity capabilities.

The new devices will be aimed at different market segments, and are expected to be priced between Rs. 7,000 and Rs. 18,000, a recent article on The Economic Times claims.

Furthermore, it appears that ZTE is planning to open a handset R&D center in India, but has not provided specific info on its investment plans in the country as of now.

"Depending on the local carrier, we would launch six devices in India, both 3G and 4G from entry level to high end category," Adam Zeng, executive VP and worldwide head of ZTE's handsets business, reportedly says.

Apparently, ZTE will focus mainly on 4G connectivity with the new handsets, as the technology is just picking up pace in the country, and it wants to monetize on that.

The mobile phone maker is already in talks with various wireless carriers in the country for the release of said devices on their 4G networks. However, no specific details on the matter have been provided as of now.

Furthermore, the company says that it is very optimistic when it comes to the success of 4G LTE in India, and that it will provide users with a series of affordable compatible devices to enjoy the technology.

"ZTE is particularly gung-ho about the business potential of 4GLTE deployments in India and we will shortly finalize specific 4G models that will be launched," Zeng adds.

According to the news site, ZTE will work with various chip makers out there for the release of its 4G smartphones at affordable price tags, given that cheap phones are usually more sought for in India.

The report also claims that the handset vendor is looking into partnering with various retailers in the country for the release of its new devices, and that it is also looking into selling premium handsets, such as the Nubia lineup, through Amazon, eBay, and Flipkart.

All in all, ZTE appears determined to invest a lot in India this year and the next, as it is also determined to increase sales of its GSM and CDMA devices, in addition to ensuring that 4G LTE-enabled ones become successful here.

However, a great deal of details on the matter have yet to be unveiled, hopefully in the not-too-distant future. Keep an eye on this space to learn the news.
