14 DAY TRIAL // Although Mozilla announced it would launch its first Firefox-based mobile phones only in Brazil, Chinese handset maker ZTE has confirmed it is working closely with the company to launch a similar device in Europe.
During Consumer Electronics Show 2013 (CES), Cheng Lixin, chief executive officer of ZTE’s U.S. unit, tells Bloomberg it is searching for collaborations with other companies that could reduce ZTE’s reliance to Google’s Android platform.
Firefox and Ubuntu would be great choices for any major handset maker, and it looks like ZTE has already set its eyes on Mozilla’s Firefox mobile platform.
Hopefully, other important players in the market will join forces to support these new operating systems, which start as good alternatives to Android.
According to the latest reports, Mozilla and ZTE could seize around 1% of the smartphone market in 2013 if they will launch one or more devices this year. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
