Chinese mobile phone maker ZTE has just launched its Windows Phone-powered Tania smartphone on the UK market.

Hitting shelves as an affordable device, the new ZTE Tania features pretty decent specifications, even if it doesn’t top flagship handsets from Nokia, Samsung, HTC, or LG.

The new mobile phone was made available in China in September last year, but the handset vendor decided to bring it to more markets around the world.

The ZTE Tania packs Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system inside a device powered by a 1GHz application processor and boasting only 4GB of internal storage.

There is no possibility to add some more storage into the mix, but users can sync the phone into the cloud. Microsoft provides them with 25GB of free storage via SkyDrive.

ZTE’s Windows Phone also comes with a 4.3-inch touchscreen display that can deliver a standard 800 x 480-pixel resolution. The new device also comes with a slim body, being only 10.7mm thick.

The smartphone is said to run under the latest version of Microsoft’s mobile operating system. It is expected to become available on contract at around £10 or £20. Virgin Media and Go Mobile will have it available for their users, along with another retailer, yet unnamed.

“Having ZTE join the Windows Phone family is great news. Their expertise will be crucial in delivering Windows Phone to new and different customers. We look forward to continuing and developing our relationship with ZTE in the future,” Leila Martine, director of Windows Phone UK, said, according to Pocket-lint.

The Chinese mobile phone maker is expected to unveil to the world a new set of smartphones as soon as next month during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. No specific info on what these devices will be all about has emerged so far, nor details on whether there will be a Windows Phone handset among them.
