Several handset manufacturers are trying to make the slimmest handset in the world, but as soon as one claims the “world’s thinnest smartphone” title, another one announces a thinner device.

Things become a bit more complex when you want that slim smartphone to come with high-end features to match competition. The latest smartphone to wear the crown for the world’s thinnest smartphone, the Oppo Finder, is only 6.66mm thin.

However, it only took three days for the Oppo Finder to lose the title. Apparently, Chinese handset manufacturer ZTE is about to launch a new Android phone, which is only 6.2mm thin.

That’s only 0.3mm thinner than the Oppo Finder, but it is more than enough to claim the title of the “world thinnest smartphone.”

Although ZTE did not come forward with an official announcement yet, the company’s Market Strategy Director posted some pictures of the slim phone along with its specs.

Those who value thinness over other features, when they decide to pick a phone, should know that the Oppo Finder will be launched on the market on June 6.

Still, those who wish to purchase the ZTE Athena and its 0.3mm thinner profile will probably have to wait a bit longer for the smartphone to go live on the market.

When it comes to technical specs, ZTE Athena stands out thanks to its 720p display and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. We also know that the device will be equipped with a Cortex A15 processor, though there are no details on the clock value.

There’s also 64GB of internal memory inside, which makes the microSD card slot rather useless. Still, the smartphone might also provide users with the possibility to expand storage amount even further via microSD card, though this has yet to be confirmed.

Unfortunately, there are no details on availability and pricing options, but at least ZTE confirmed that the Athena would be rolled out globally, whereas the Oppo Finder will only be available in China.
