Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2008 is a video game developed and published by Japanese company Konami exclusively for the Nintendo DS.

As its name says, it is part of the extremely popular Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise and is just one of the many video games that were inspired by the long-running anime and manga series.

The game takes the core elements of the Yu-Gi-Oh! universe, specifically the collection of cards with monsters imprinted on them, and uses them in battles against other people.

Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2008 was launched in its native Japan on November 29, 2007, followed by North America, December 4, Europe, March 28, 2008, Australia, April 3, and South Korea, April 5, that same year.

The game, as its name suggests, features the 2008 Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, up to the Gladiator's Assault set, including ones that weren't previously released in other games from the franchise.

Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2008 has two main game modes, with the first being Duel World.

This mode tasks the players with visiting different worlds and dueling the unique monsters that reside in those specific levels.

The second one is the World Championship mode, which was revealed for the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2007 game one year before the launch of this title.

This mode allows the player to once again fight challengers that he unlocked in the Duel World mode.

Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2008 offers Duel Points to both players once a battle is done, which can then be used to purchase more cards from the Card Shop.

The game also lets players customize their own character, as well as play in Tag Duels where they are joined by an AI-controlled partner and face off against other computer-controlled enemies.

Last but not least, another feature of the game is the Tournaments section, which tasks players with defeating 7 random adversaries in order to win that tournament.
