Some Anonymous hackers don't seem to like the new project

As many Anonymous supporters probably know, YourAnonNews (YAN) is one of the most trusted Anonymous-related news channels around. However, YAN has decided that Twitter and Tumblr are not enough, so they’re launching a new service.

“Many things have changed since we began from the rise of worldwide movements to the fall of oppressive regimes. All the while our goal was to disseminate information we viewed as vital, separating it from the political and celebrity gossip than inundates the mainstream,” YAN representatives wrote.

“We haven’t had a space to provide a proper forum for our many contributors and talented supporters. We love the livestreamers that provide YAN with first-hand reporting and the independent journalists whose voices often unheard, but we aren’t supporting them the way we should. We’re here to change that.”

For this project, the hacktivists need financial support. That’s why they’ve created a campaign on international crowdfunding site Indiegogo.

However, it appears that not everyone supports the project, which has already raised over $10,000 (7,600 EUR), five times its original goal.

TechCrunch reports that Indiegogo has suffered a distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attack of unknown origin.

“Hi everyone, we are experiencing a brief outage. We apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you for your patience, we'll be right back!” Indiegogo wrote on Twitter.

“We apologize for the inconvenience caused by today’s DDoS attack that has interrupted Indiegogo’s int’l operations,” the company stated after the attack ended.

“Campaigns scheduled to conclude this week will have the option of extending until Sunday by contacting our Customer Happiness team,” it added.

A few hours ago, Indiegogo confirmed that the DDOS attack was aimed at the YAN campaign. However, they say they haven’t identified the attackers yet.

TechCrunch says that other Anonymous hackers are probably responsible for the attack. This is a likely scenario, considering that since Anonymous turned from a “group” to a “movement,” hackers don’t always see eye to eye.
