Your Say: Internet Explorer 10 on Windows 7 Is a Waste of Time

Internet Explorer 10 is currently the default browser on Windows 8, but in order to let previous Windows users get a taste of the new app, the company has also released a “preview” version for Windows 7 too.

Although it’s just a preview, most of our users are complaining that it’s actually slower than many other browsers out there on the market, even though Microsoft has already said that its browser is capable of providing a “stellar” web browsing experience.

One of the biggest problems with IE10 on Windows 7 is the fact that it disables the Aero interface, some of our users have suggested.

“IE 10 install disabled Aero on my Windows 7 computer. I've spent hours trying to restore it. No luck,” one reader explained. “Same story here. Disabled Aero, and I have no idea how to enable it again,” another confirmed.

Others, however, have claimed that AutoComplete doesn’t work at all in Internet Explorer 10.

“AutoComplete does not work on my machines (desktops & laptops). Form inputs, user IDs and passwords are not remembered even if the settings in Tools/Content are OK.”

Overall, most of our readers emphasize that Internet Explorer 10 brings absolutely no improvement on Windows 7, at least not in preview form.

“Messed up my desktop, saved cookies wouldn't stick, couldn't reply on some forums. Went back to IE9, reset everything and find that 9 is as fast as 10. Hopefully when they automatically update 9 to 10, these problems won’t exist!” one of the readers said.

According to sources familiar with the matter, Microsoft plans to release the final build of Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7 in a couple of months, but some other people are pointing out that such an app could arrive even before year-end.

If you wish to get rid of Internet Explorer 10 on Windows 7 and switch back to IE9, here are some step-by-step instructions on how to do it.

Yes IE10 is better than IE9, loads pages faster. AUTO COMPLETE feature and AERO is working fine.

Wish MS would stop all this release 'preview stuff' - it's a beta version, there are bound to be issues!!!

IE10 Preview on Windows 7 is lightning fast here, no issues with Aero or AutoComplete or indeed, anything else! In my own testing it's overall marginally faster than Chrome and far faster than Firefox (which I no longer use regularly).

I have been running IE10 Release Preview on Windows 7 and It is Faster than IE 9 or the Firefox 18. Release and probably Faster than Chrome which pre-loads when Windows Starts. You do not Need a Nano Second STOP Watch to see the Difference.

My autosign-in on the Bing hompage doesn't work in IE10, but it does in IE9. So, I uninstalled it and have IE9 now -- which works great.

IE9 works less and less from update to update. Hopefully i saw, IE10 does all that, IE9 does not but had to do. If autocomplete and remember passwords and IDs does not work its the best idea ever for security. But I think, yet there will be a lot of work to do to kick out all "good things" like preferred sites and preloading beeing only spyware, not helpfull. Where is a browser to find, which does, what browsers have to do: Find and display information secure without storing data about what the user has done and showing, not hiding the functions. That programmer, presenting a browser, doing only that would be the greatest. Last good browser was IE6 and last good windows was windows 2000 pro. No miracle, why microsoft is running down!

I did auto-updated and manually updated IE10 twice, but both times I got same problems with loading up or surfing it. I got my system rolling back to IE9 now and it work fine. I don't think IE10 ready for win 7 yet, so your best version is still the IE9 or IE8.

I just tried to download Explorer 10. When I tried to connect to the internet on any page, I got the notice that it can not connect. I finally went to system restore to a time when I had Explorer 9. Things are now back to normal.

Came as important update. Downloaded Explorer 10. Firstly I couldnot access my email on BT Yahoo. Secondly HP Simple Pass did not work. Then browser stopped working and I resorted to system restore. Everything seems to be fine now. I get concerned that MS put this out as Important update when it has not been well and truly tested. If I see Important update from MS I usually allow update without further thought. Not anymore.

It like all IE versions since IE 7 breaks some sites. Its still Microsoft's flavor of "standard".
If nothing else IE10 is close to being as fast as Chrome but its more like a distant second in my book. As far as HTML5 its leaps and bounds over IE9 but its still lagging behind all the rest. So in terms of comparing IE versions IE10 is much better. Compared to all the rest its already fallen behind. If nothing else IE10 makes for a better browser for those few times you need IE. Otherwise I would stay with anything but IE. Just because the web has finally decided that the real standards are the ones to support and not Microsoft's versions.

I use a website called wpn.com. It won't work with IE 10 but it will with IE9 or Firefox.
When I called MS they said to go back to IE9. The problem is that MS automatically installs IE10 when you have IE9 as an update so you will get it back unless you shut off automatic updates. I don't know specifically why IE10 doesn't work so I will have to test every new version of IE10 to see if they fixed it.
One step forward - two steps back for MS.

IE 10 is a dog, it won't let me choose my own download location. I hate programs that try to run my workflow. What a pox!

Yeah, ie10 totally * up Windows7. My PC would not start and it took an hour for the startup repair to fix the problem. The fix included restoring to a state before ie10 was installed.
