Facebook's Instant Personalization certainly got people talking when it was launched back in April, for better or for worse. Now Facebook is expanding the program by adding support for a new site in the feature, the movie review site Rotten Tomatoes.

"The web is better with friends, especially for inherently social activities like movies, so we're working with Rotten Tomatoes to make it easier for you to take your friends to the movie review site," Austin Haugen, a Facebook Platform Product Manager, wrote.

"You'll immediately see the reviews most relevant to you, without having to register, search for friends, or fill out a profile," he added.

The proposition is hard to resist and Instant Personalization makes a lot of sense for a movie review site. As soon as you land on Rotten Tomatoes, as long as you're logged into Facebook, you'll see a bunch of new elements.

In the left sidebar, you will see the movies your friends like the most. This should give you a great idea of what movies are popular among your friends and what you need to watch if you don't want to be left behind.

You'll also notice a new section with movies recommended for you. Movie recommendations are nothing new, but the section uses your own likes and ratings, using data from Facebook as well, to come up with suggestions that you're likely to enjoy.

Finally, you'll also be able to check out what your friends are up to, when it comes to movies, with the recent activity section in the right sidebar. There you'll see your friends' comments and ratings.

Again, the major issue with Instant Personalization is the automatic opt-in, you're rolled in whether you want it or not. But with Rotten Tomatoes, hopefully, there shouldn't be any problems, it's hard to see what dirty secrets your friends and family could uncover from your movie tastes.
