This past Thursday, in the early hours of the morning, a 25-year-old unidentified man was found walking across the frozen surface of North America's Lake St. Clair.

Despite the fact that temperatures in the area were well below zero, hence the fact that Lake St. Clair was frozen, the man was wearing regular clothes, like the ones people put on when they go to the movies or to the supermarket.

What's more, his rescuers say that he was not carrying any flotation device or anything of the sorts. This means that, had the ice broke under his feet, he probably would have drowned.

The man was found by the US Coast Guard

Yesterday morning, a US Cost Guard vessel set sail on Lake St. Clair to cut the thick ice covering it and clear the way for commercial shipping. While going about their business, the crew chanced to see the young man walking across the lake.

What drew their attention was the man's plain clothes and the fact that he seemed anything but equipped to handle the harsh conditions on the frozen Lake St. Clair.

Rather than abandon him to his fate, a few crew members left their ship and walked over to him. When they finally reached him they found that, being hypothermic, the 25-year-old was badly shivering.

What's more, they say that he was unresponsive to stimuli and that he kept staring in the distance. The Coast Guard officials are convinced that, if left alone, the man would have surely died. “He was very lethargic,” said officer Scott Sjostrom.

So, what was this man's story?

After they got him back to their ship and warmed him up, the 25-year-old's rescuers found that he was from Detroit, Michigan, and that he set out to walk across Lake St. Clair because he wanted to get to Toronto in Canada.

Daily Mail tells us that, at the time when he was found, the man was about 200 miles (322 kilometers) from his target city. He had been walking on the lake for about 2 or 3 days when he was rescued.

The crew aboard the US Coast Guard ship brought the 25-year-old adventurer back to shore with them, where doctors helped him get back on his feet. One can only hope that, if still determined to get to Toronto, the man will choose another way to get there on his second attempt.
