14 DAY TRIAL // Yougetitback, an Irish company that offers "recovery services", has announced the North American availability of Mobile Superhero, presented as the perfect solution in helping users recover their lost or stolen electronic devices.
Mobile Superhero can be installed on your phone, after a free account on the Yougetitback website is created. When the handset is lost or stolen, its owner can access the account and lock the phone, remotely, so that anyone who finds it can't use any of its functions and neither access personal data like contacts, emails and so on. The sole thing that the finder can do with the handset is call Yougetitback and report finding it - this is the only outgoing call permitted after the device is locked.
Furthermore, users can retrieve their contacts from the "missing handsets", with only one click made through the Yougetitback account.
According to the Irish company, until now, about 75% of the stolen or lost devices that have Mobile Superhero installed were in the end returned to their true owners.
Frank Hannigan, CEO at Yougetitback, stated: "People carry a great deal of sensitive data in their mobile phones, PDAs and laptops, such as contacts, credit card numbers, banking details and sensitive business information - not to mention personal mementos like photos of their loved ones. Most people may not give a second thought to the valuable personal information stored in their devices - until they are misplaced, lost or stolen. Our service assures that all is not lost in such cases. If their devices go missing, we provide people peace of mind."
Currently, the handsets that are compatible with Mobile Superhero include only devices from Nokia, Samsung, RIM and Panasonic and the full list looks like this:
