Don’t boil it, bend it, or blend it, just to be safe

There’s no shortage of YouTube videos depicting iPhones dying in the most horrific ways possible, with the protagonists sometimes sadistically murdering the devices as the camera rolls.

A new example of how to completely annihilate a brand new iPhone 6 for no reason whatsoever other than to generate page views comes from the TechRax YouTube channel.

iPhone 6 boils in Coke goo

The guy recording the video says he’s experimenting with boiling Coke and is eager to see what happens if you throw an iPhone 6 into the mix. “As if the results could somehow yield a discovery,” we thought, and proceeded to hit the play button. Curiosity got the best of us.

By the end of the clip, we stood corrected. There was a good lesson to be learned from this apparently useless video, and that was: if you’re going to promote your YouTube channel by destroying an iPhone, keep a safe distance as you never know when that thing will explode.

Worse still, the smoke coming out of the failing battery is heavily poisonous and you should avoid inhaling it at all costs.

Battery poisoning facts

From the U.S. National Library of Medicine, “Symptoms that can result from breathing in large amounts of the acidic battery, or contents, dust, and smoke from burning batteries include: decreased mental ability, difficulty sleeping, muscle cramps, slurred speech, weakness in the legs, bronchitis, headache, pneumonia, itching skin, numbness of the fingers or toes, [...] and spastic walk.”

“If the person breathed in fumes from the battery, immediately move him or her to fresh air,” the document adds. “If the battery broke and contents touched the eyes or skin, wash the area with water for 15 minutes.”

The guy did headline the video “Don’t Boil Your iPhone 6 in Coca-Cola,” so at least he’s doing a public service for the mentally inapt, but the video clearly shows a man taking pleasure in destroying perfectly good Apple equipment who doesn’t seem to be aware of the dangers involving battery smoke. Even BlendTech says don't do it.

We’re not here to judge, but we will say that he took quite a big risk with the smoke coming out of the exploding battery. If you too are planning to go off the rails with an iPhone 6, wear a mask or at least make sure all windows are ope.... What are we saying here? Don’t destroy an iPhone 6 on purpose. Just... don’t!

Watch the video embedded below and enjoy (or not). Smoke thing comes around the 3:35 mark.
