The new version brings many improvements related to playlists

Google has just updated its YouTube application for Android devices with lots of improvements and under-the-hood enhancements.

Even though it appears to be quite a major update that bumps the application to version 5.9, developers did not release an official changelog that would go with this new iteration yet.

However, the folks over at AndroidPolice tore down the APK file and found some new features and improvements, mostly related to playlists.

For example, the new version of YouTube comes with a contextual menu that would allow users to quickly access features that were already included in the application. This menu also provides them with the possibility to share and save playlists to the sidebar for later use.

Each playlist now features an “Add” button, which seems to have replaced the Like button, but functionality remains the same. Furthermore, there’s a new “View All” button in the sidebar under Playlists, which replaces the “Show More” option.

These seem to be the most obvious changes included in this update, but others may be hidden inside the application. If you notice anything else, let us know in the comments section.

You can now download YouTube for Android 5.9 for free via Google Play Store. The application should be fully compatible with most devices powered by Android 2.2 and up.

The APK file is also available for manual download on this page.
