YouTube is the most popular online video sharing service, allowing users to upload, share and comment videos with other members of the community. Because the product encourages users to upload their own creations, more and more members are attracted by the user-generated content. Recently, a market research revealed the biggest amount of traffic is generated by the homemade videos created by the users and uploaded on Google's recently acquired product.

So, it's obvious YouTube's users are attracted by the homemade clips and the company really wants to increase their profits using this type of movies. Today, San Francisco Chronicle reported that YouTube prepares the Video Awards to give prizes to the members who uploaded the most popular clips. The publication sustains the nominees are selected for seven categories including most creative, most inspirational, best series, best comedy, musician of the year, best commentary and the most adorable video ever.

"We wanted to call out some of the most popular videos and let the users choose which ones deserve some additional recognition. We looked at the genres of content that were the most popular last year. "We've seen and continue to see exciting new developments in the online video space where genres are being created," said Jamie Byrne, head of product marketing at YouTube.

As you might know, Google released an interesting feature for YouTube to allow users to earn money by uploading clips on the online video sharing service. Using the function, the search giant encourages users to upload their homemade movies and, depending on the number of views and comments, they will earn a certain amount of money. Although the function was not too popular, it seems like the users are really attracted by the homemade area of YouTube.
