That's what an US survey says

The latest Video Metrix report saw digital analyst comScore.com revealing that YouTube still dominates the online video market. And it's not hard to do that when you have Google covering your back, but that's not all that important now.

According to wikipedia.org, YouTube is a video sharing website where users can upload, view and share video clips. YouTube was created in mid-February 2005, by three former PayPal employees. The San Bruno-based service uses Adobe Flash technology in order to display a wide variety of video content, including movie clips, TV clips and music videos, as well as amateur content, such as videoblogging and short original videos.

With that in mind, you have to understand why the video sharing site is so wildly popular; out of the 136 million Americans that watched video online, 71 percent unique visitors chose YouTube as the site for their video viewing pleasure. 9 billion online videos were viewed in September, the month in which the survey was conveyed. The rankings that were formed are as follows:

■ 28.3% (2.6 billion) - YouTube ■ 4.2% (387 million) - Fox Interactive Media ■ 4.1% (381 million) - Yahoo! Sites ■ 3.3% (304 million) - Viacom Digital ■ 2.2% (198 million) - Time Warner Network ■ 2.1% (194 million) - Microsoft Sites ■ 1.0% (92 million) - Disney Online ■ 1.0% (89 million) - ESPN ■ 0.6% (52 million) - Comcast Corporation ■ 0.5% (48 million) - CBS Corporation

It's a demoralizing lead for the followers, but you must take into consideration that the runners up have uploaded only official and original videos, the huge difference being made by the user uploaded content. Other interesting facts reported were that users watched an average of three hours of videos per month, totaling 68 videos of an average duration of about 2.7 minutes each.
