I can't believe that they haven't done this earlier, it should have been like the second or the third local YouTube launched, not just one in the ranks of many being launched all over the world. I'm not saying that because I have something against
all the others that launched before it, but it is indeed one of the biggest countries in the world, the biggest, in fact, and it has the population to go with that. Not the most populous, but in the top ten, nevertheless.
There's been a party, of course, and Terra Naomi, a YouTube star, and her band were invited to perform. By the looks of it and from what I've read on her blog, the party was held on Saturday, but I haven't seen any official notification. Instead, I did search for the Russian version of YouTube and I found it, just check the picture on the left. The front page of the site featured several videos created by YouTube users, relating to the brand of the video sharing web site. Some said "YouTube Hello" in Russian, others graffitied the logo, others did totally different things with the "Hello" message.
It fit right in with the holidays for the Russian people, a nice present from Santa Google to start the partying season. I wonder how long it will take for the program to give back some of the revenue, generated by their videos for YouTube, to the most prolific and original users. Russia is a big country, as I said, many interesting things are bound to happen and there's sure somebody who will catch it on tape.
Oh, I can't wait for the first users to upload the local drinking songs. I've always found that they are particularly melodious, especially after I read the first Swen Hassel book and searched for one of the songs that had its lyrics written down there. It's worthed every penny I spent on the CD.
