One week ago, YouTube, the Google recently acquired online video sharing service, announced the company prepares the 2006 Video Awards, an event mean to recognize the best videos uploaded by its users. A recent study revealed that the majority of the YouTube users are attracted by the homemade videos published on the page so this represented a good way to boost the site's traffic and to attract even more visitors.

"2006 was a pioneering year for online video, user-created content and the YouTube community. You let us into your bedrooms, created new forms of entertainment, and radicalized popular culture. Now it's time to reflect on what a tremendous year it was and recognize the best of the best during the first YouTube Video Awards," YouTube sustained on the page especially designed to host the event.

YouTube decided to select nominees for 7 categories: most creative, best comedy, best commentary, best series, best music video, most inspirational and most adorable. Although the movies are made by ordinary users, some of them look like they were recorded by professional engineers with hi-tech equipment.

The first award for the most creative video uploaded on YouTube was won by OKGo with his "Here It Goes Again" clip that recorded 13.300.019 view, 11896 comments, 49622 ratings and 87310 users that selected the clip as favorite. The numbers are quite impressive, so I guess the YouTube member really deserves the award.

If you want to view the official page of the contest you can click on this link. At this time, YouTube Video Awards site contains only the videos uploaded by the winners, so the voting session was closed. So, if you're planning to become a YouTube elite member, upload your clip now to have the chance to become one of the 2007 YouTube Video Awards nominees.
