Google's YouTube will be one of the honored companies at the upcoming 11th Webby awards event that will present the most popular products on the Internet. According to Bigmouthmedia News, Steve Chen and Chad Hurley, the YouTube founders will be named the People of the Year because they created the most visited online video sharing service.

"Additionally, the best actor and actress categories will go to two YouTube stars: Ninja from "Ask a Ninja" and Jessica Lee Rose from "lonelygirl15" both made their mark posting video blogs on the site," the same publication reported.

This is quite the first important award received by YouTube, the service being often improved since the Google acquisition in October 2006. As you might know, YouTube was bought by the Mountain View company for $1.6 billion, the first sustaining it already paid off the investment. However, the search giant is now fighting against numerous rivals that are preparing similar services with the same goals as the Google product. The first important challenge was released on Friday when Sony released eyeVio, the online video sharing service currently available only to Japanese users.

In the past, GodTube also announced its plans to fight with YouTube, aiming to attract Christians to their church-related content. YouTube decided to response with a similar move and designed a special channel hosted by the product that will attract bishops, offering the same type of content. Then, News Corp announced the plans to develop the most powerful YouTube rival ever created but the search giant is still the leader in its category. Among these websites, we can also mention ScrewTube, a service that allows the upload of YouTube's prohibited content and QubeTV, a political online video sharing service.
