Early this year, Google announced that it plans to hire a lot more people, 2011 will see the biggest headcount increase yet. It seems that the growth spur is spread all over the company, YouTube is now announcing that it plans to hire more people, a lot more people actually, it wants to be 30 bigger by the end of the year.

"2010 was a bang-up year. And in 2011, we plan to grow the number of people working at YouTube by more than 30% (!), making it the largest hiring year in YouTube’s history. We’re looking for top talent from around the world," Jeff Ferguson, YouTube HR, wrote.

"Today, 35 hours of video is uploaded to YouTube every minute and we see well over 2 billion views a day. It’s been amazing to watch an idea become a platform that turned into a stage for hundreds of millions of people to express themselves," Ferguson pitched for the company.

YouTube employs about 650 people now, so a 30 percent increase would mean about 200 new positions. It is hiring across the board and in several locations around the world, its jobs page lists dozens of open positions.

YouTube is moving to become the place where people get their video fix, regardless if this means cute kittens, music videos, online shows or breaking news. If it's video, especially original content, YouTube wants it.

But as the largest video website in the world, and still growing immensely, it needs more people, especially in the ad sales, partner communications and related departments.

While YouTube is part of Google, it operates independently as a subsidiary. Google's technology and design philosophies have left their imprint all over the site, but YouTube still has an identity and is one of the few Google properties that is handling content and media partners successfully.
