Last night in New York City, the first-ever YouTube Music Awards took place. Winners had all been voted by fans on social media so, in more ways than one, the event was a reflection of today’s tastes in music.

As any other respectable awards show, the YouTube gala also included several live performances from major artists, Lady Gaga and Eminem included.

The latter’s performance of his brand new song “Rap God” is embedded above and, good news, it’s totally safe to watch because it’s the clean version.

Eminem also won the Artist of the Year award and, in so doing, beat heavy contenders to the title including Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, One Direction, Rihanna, and Taylor Swift, all of them artists with a very strong following online.

Eminem’s new album, “Marshall Mathers LP2,” will be out in music stores tomorrow, November 5, 2013.
