Rumors on Google's new YouTube application for kids emerged a few days ago. Although the search giant did not confirm the information at that time, word was that we would quickly find out whether or not they were true since YouTube Kids should be launched on February 23.

Well, it looks like Google is right on time with its new YouTube Kids for Android devices, thus confirming the previous rumors that mentioned the application.

Even though the YouTube Kids for Android does not cost anything to download or use, for the time being it's only available in the United States. This is probably a soft launch of the application, which is expected to be made available worldwide in the coming months.

As the name suggests, YouTube Kids has been especially designed to offer age-appropriate videos, channels and playlists. The application comes with well-known children's programming, kid-friendly content from teachers and creators all over the world.

Simplified design and special settings for parents

Apart from the specific content, the application also comes with a simplified design, like larger buttons for example and instant full-screen, which allows for easier navigation.

YouTube Kids also offers a range of settings for parents, which allows them to turn off search for an even more contained experience.

In addition, parents can also set the built-in timer to show their kids when it's time to stop watching. These settings are put behind a lock and can only be accessed by parents.

You can now download YouTube Kids for Android for free via Google Play Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Android 4.1 and up.

On a side note, Google launched YouTube Kids on iOS platform as well. Those who favor Apple's OS over Google's Android can download the application for free via App Store, assuming they are in the United States.
