Impressive audience for the political debates

Yesterday, YouTube made history after its long awaited political debates produced by a deal with CNN attracted an impressive audience that brought approximately 2,900 clips to the online video sharing platform. If you didn't know, the folks from the Googleplex found an interesting procedure to bring more video content on the page and attract the attention of the mass-media: they invited the 2008 US Presidential candidates to YouTube and required them to record a short clip to talk with the Internet users. In addition, the YouTube registered members were demanded to create their own videos to ask the candidates whatever they want and wait for the answers in yesterday's political debates.

"As you may know, last night YouTube teamed up with CNN to broadcast a U.S. Democratic presidential primary debate unlike any that's ever been done before. Through the power of YouTube, people from all across the country submitted more than 2,900 video questions, some of which were broadcast and answered by the Democratic candidates live on CNN from the Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. This debate was the first one sanctioned by the Democratic National Committee this year," Caity Noonan, YouTube Sales Rep, CPG team, wrote today on the official blog of the Mountain View company.

As you might know, yesterday it was the Democratic candidates' turn to be invited into YouTube political debates but the Republicans will also join the campaign on September 17th. So, if you want to ask a few questions to the candidates, you should upload your clip until September 16th using this page.

It was proved once again that YouTube's popularity and power is somehow unlimited as it comes with new innovations and hot projects every once in a while. Since it was acquired by the Mountain View giant Google in October 2006, YouTube grew up a lot and will continue to grow until the Googlers abandon the service (a fact that sounds impossible).
