OK, so YouTube is the most popular online video sharing service on the Internet, being owned by Google since October 2006 when the company paid $1.6 billion. Since the Google acquisition,
the search giant made impressive efforts to boost the YouTube traffic but the company encountered several problems caused by the content published on the page. Although Viacom ordered Google to remove almost 100.000 clips from the page, the company sustained YouTube's traffic was boosted just after the Viacom removal was started. This is clearly a sign that YouTube is able to attract visitors without any partnership or agreement.
Today, I'll ask you: is YouTube going to become a new kind of television? As you know, the users are continuously uploading any type of video content on the page including TV shows, movies and user generated content. Although there is a huge amount of videos, the statistics sustained most visitors are attracted by the homemade videos uploaded by ordinary members of the website.
In the recent period, YouTube displayed a lot of videos that are usually present on the TV such as NBA videos, Chelsea FC football highlights and many other clips. As you know, the company made several partnerships with NBA, Chelsea FC and BBC to enhance the content provided by YouTube and provide sports content and latest headlines.
Take the example of the BBC partnership: using the agreement, YouTube will create 3 additional channels meant to display latest news and entertainment headlines. In the past, YouTube displayed several parts from "24", the TV series produced by Fox that caused a little trouble for the company. User uploaded videos from the latest release of "24" just before the official release of the program, so Fox decided to send a subpoena to YouTube to provide more information about the member.
So, YouTube is already displaying TV shows, sports content, news headlines and an impressive amount of users generated content. Is YouTube the new type of TV?
