Google promised stabilization and minor bug fixes for users of the YouTube app

A new version of the YouTube iOS client was released yesterday with the purpose of addressing crashing bugs and other issues, though customers continue to report problems with the video app.

YouTube version 2.6.0 promised to deliver “stabilization and minor bug fixes,” but the update apparently doesn’t do much good on some device configurations, such as the fourth-generation iPod touch.

Here’s one example. User Sonicxlover135 writes, “So I see this new update, completely focused on stabilizing the app. My initial reactions were : Yaay! No more crashes! But, when I loaded up the app on my 4TH GEN IPOD TOUCH, I soon figured out that I can't even watch a 5 minute video for nearly 40-50 seconds without it crashing. Somehow you guys made it crash even MORE!”

Others are upset that Google keeps changing the app’s layout, while some are experiencing issues that weren’t present in the YouTube app before.

Google says YouTube requires iOS 6.0 and suggests that the app works even with iPhone 3GS, iPad 2, and iPod touch fourth generation devices, though it has become increasingly apparent that these old devices cannot cope with the app’s demands anymore. Perhaps they should consider putting iOS 7 as the minimum requirement. After all, pretty much everyone is on it already.
