Last week, YouTube announced Spotlight, the company's latest attempt to conquer the political domain using the upcoming 2008 presidential election. If you didn't know, Spotlight is meant to allow every candidate to publish a clip on YouTube and talk to the members of the service. The viewers of the video are able to reply to the candidate by publishing other clips and create an interactive discussion. Last week, Governor Mitt Romney was the one who introduced the new feature, asking the YouTube members "What is America's single greatest challenge". This week it's Senator John Edwards' turn, a candidate for the Democratic nomination. Because last week it attracted almost 70 video replies and 400.000 views, YouTube expects an important boost of visitors looking for the current clip.

"Next up in the You Choose '08 Spotlight is Senator John Edwards, a candidate for the Democratic nomination for President. Edwards was a U.S. Senator from 1998 until 2004, when he ran as the Democratic nominee for Vice President of the United States. Spotlight highlights the revolutionary way that YouTube politics is giving us access to speak directly to our leaders -- in this case, the future President of the United States. And as we've already seen, they are listening!" Steve, YouTube News & Politics sustained on the official blog.

Since the presidential campaign started, YouTube is struggling to attract both candidates and users to use the service as the main promotion tool. Although it is especially designed for US residents, the entire world is visiting Spotlight to view the latest plans of the candidates and their intentions once they are invested as the US President. If you want to reply to this week's video, you can click on this link and upload your clip.
