YouTube's old killer, also known as Joost, is about to receive a major improvement provided by meebo, the famous platform which enables consumers to communicate through several platforms straight from your browser. Meebo will power the Channel Chat, a new Joost ability which is supposed to support the communications between the users of the application. The two companies said the platform is able to host up to 140 million messages per day which is pretty impressive although Joost offers 15,000 shows and 250 video channels.

"Participation in community activities has emerged as one of the most significant trends in consumer behavior," said Mike Volpi, CEO of Joost. "By offering our viewers a robust channel chat option, they can chat with people interested in the same shows and subjects - and ultimately customize and enrich their entertainment experiences."

This announcement comes after just a few days since meebo debuted some new goodies for the users of the technology, enabling them to access it from any iPhone and straight from Firefox through a new Mozilla-compatible browser add-on.

"Even in an on-demand environment like Joost, people can experience live community around popular channels and shows," said Seth Sternberg, CEO and co-founder, meebo. "According to a recent internal survey at meebo, 25% of meebo users IM while watching TV - there's a lot more we can be doing to connect people who share a common passion around a specific show or genre."

Meebo has always been one of my favorite services because it allows users to chat with their friends on Yahoo, Windows Live Messenger, AIM, ICQ, Jabber and some other networks without installing any software. The only thing required by meebo is an Internet connection (obviously), a browser (no matter it is Internet Explorer, Opera or Firefox) and an account for the network you want to connect to.
