For a Black Friday deal, it's actually not so bad

The FarCry series seems to grow by one every other year or so, and it's always a name we hear when it comes to free game bundles from AMD and/or NVIDIA. Now, though, a different company is offering a giveaway.

Solid state drives may no longer be so disadvantaged compared to hard disk drives, but they still possess higher price and lower capacity.

Those drawbacks can't be offset that easily, although they are high-end storage units so the price, at least, doesn't sting as much (high-end customers usually have cash to spare).

That still leaves competing SSDs to win against, however. Seeing a chance in the tradition of Black Friday, Samsung chose a less common tactic: game bundling.

Buy a Samsung 840 EVO SSD and get FarCry 4 for free

FarCry 4 is an open-world adventure/shooting game with an expansive universe where your character can do a whole bunch of different things. It also happens to have a very high level of graphics.

That means that only owners of high-end PCs will be able to play it properly. And with most high-end PCs having at least one SSD these days (for SSD caching if nothing else), the 840 EVO line is bound to get at least a passing glance.

That way, starting on Black Friday, November 28, 2014, 840 EVO SSDs will sell with a free download code for FarCry 4.

The offer will be available while supplies last, and Samsung was predictably vague about how many will be available for order, so you may as well be quick.

You'll be able to get the game for free with any of the following 840 EVO Samsung SSDs: 250 gigabyte (GB), 500GB, 750GB, and 1 terabyte (TB).

The storage devices have a maximum read speed of 540 MB/s and a top writing speed of 520 MB/s. They also get AES 256-bit encryption and TCG Opal 2.0 / IEEE1667 compliant encryption support.

Moreover, they have an MTBF of 1.5 million hours as well as an average power draw of 0.1W (typical operation) or 0.045W (power saving on).

The prices are of $120 / €120 to $400 / €400, from 250 GB to 1 TB. Since FarCry 4 has a price of around $60 / €60 when bought separately, you can see why the offer would be tempting. We'll keep our eyes open for other game bundles.
