Apple may not be ready in time with the new cable, retailer claims

A new, sketchy report coming from an Apple retailer claims that the Cupertino Tech giant may not include the reversible USB cable with their next-gen iPhone 6. This is even more dubious, as the retailer suggests the users should buy it from them instead. The part they are selling looks exactly like the one we have seen yesterday, in a leak from China.

According to a statement coming from this retailer, moca.co and published by 9to5mac, Apple did not place any orders with their traditional manufacturing partner yet. Therefore, users will not get the new connector and reversible USB connector with the iPhone 6 and Apple will not even sell it in 2014.

A moca.co representative said they had got their info from the official appointed manufacturer of Apple's new reversible USB cable. So far there have been some samples sent over to Apple for approval, but the guys in Cupertino did not respond to the request. Hence, the iPhone 6 users will not be able to get it this year from Apple.

According to the same source, the US Power adapter is being produced right now, and it may or may not come in the same box with the iPhone 6 and the larger iPhone 6L. The guys over at moca.co believe that the new charger is slightly larger, but it will output 2A so you can charge your iPhone faster and use the same connector for the iPad Air or iPad mini.

However, the iPhone users’ hopes are not all lost. You can pre-order a new MFI-certified reversible USB to lightning cable from, you guessed it, moca.co.

They say they need at least 1,000 orders to start production and will ship the charger in October. You can get that cable for $15 (€11.29) and add $4 (€3) for non-US or non-Singapore shipping and an extra $5 (€3.76) for a cable that is 2 meters long.

Apple is expected to announce the new, redesigned iPhone in about 2 and a half weeks. The device will come out in two sizes and will sport a 4.7-inch and another 5.5-inch diagonal display. Both iPhone models will have a larger battery, so charging that up quickly is a must, hence the larger capacity charger.

Apple has also filed at least two patents for a reversible type-A USB cable. This will make the USB to lightning port cable more usable and will end frustration for users.
