Google is a technology company at heart, but, as it is evident with YouTube, it can make a decent media company as well. Still, when people think of online movies, they think of Netflix, they think of Amazon, they think of LoveFilm in Europe, but rarely of Google and YouTube.

But Google is moving to change that, it has now expanded its movie rental program, that not that many people know of, to the UK, after launching in North America so far.

"Back in May we brought new release movies and more for rent to YouTube in the US. Last month, we took it to Canada," Matteo Vallone, YouTube business product manager, wrote.

"Now, over a thousand full-length feature films from major Hollywood and British studios are available for rent in the UK at youtube.com/movies," he announced.

With over 1,000 titles, there should be something in there you should like, provided you're inclined to watch a full length film on the site.

While it hasn't got the biggest selection online, YouTube has deals with several big Hollywood studios, as well as many smaller ones or independent companies, so there are a few blockbusters in there along with the back catalogue stuff.

"From blockbusters like The Dark Knight and Reservoir Dogs, to new releases such as Hanna, Fast Five, and Red Riding Hood, and even British classics like Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, you can find many of your favourite films in high quality available to rent now at," YouTube boasted.

Each film is priced differently, but they're generally a few pounds each for a view. Users have 30 days to watch a movie they've paid for, but only 48 hours to finish it once they've hit play for the first time.
