Because, apparently, 4 TB and 5 TB capacities are totally last year

Seagate has 6 TB hard disk drives up for sale, but while they work on motherboards just fine, the same can't be said about network-attached storage devices. Thecus has changed that for its enterprise line though.

Which is to say, you can now use one, two, three, four or more 6 TB Seagate HDDs in Thecus' network-attached storage devices.

Previously, Thecus announced support for 5TB Seagate HDDs, so it makes sense that the company would make the next step to the 6 TB ones.

It definitely has twice as sharp an edge against most every other NAS provider out there, who are limited to 4 TB per bay.

Sure, consumer NAS devices aren't likely to need 6 TB support, because the price of 6 TB Seagate HDDs kind of defeats the purpose of moderating expenses.

Besides, Seagate didn't mean for the 6 TB drives to ship to the common man anyway.

It's important to note that the Seagate 6 TB drives (which possess a transfer speed of 177 MB/s, in case you were wondering) are self-encrypting. It makes you wonder how that capability fits in with Thecus' own security measures. No doubt, it's one of the reasons why the company couldn't add support for the storage devices just like that.
