Jay Sullivan, vice president of product at Mozilla, says Apple’s rules are too strict

Mozilla head Jay Sullivan kicked off a brief discussion about Apple at the SXSW conference in Austin, Texas last week, noting that Firefox iOS may never come to fruition. The reason is Apple’s non-flexible policies regarding third-party browsers.

After pulling its own Firefox Home app from iTunes, Mozilla now confirms that it isn’t currently building a version of its Firefox browser for iOS. Apple forces third-party developers to employ WebKit to make browsers for iOS, and Mozilla wants to use sophisticated rendering and JavaScript engines.

Because of this, there’s a 100% chance Apple will reject the browser once Mozilla submits it for review. Which is why they’re not coding one, and they don’t plan to do so either, said Sullivan.

People at Opera Software and Dolphin Browser agree that Apple’s policies thwart competition, which ultimately causes end users to suffer, according to CNet.
