
Yoko Ono is said to have paid £250,000 for the original handwritten lyrics of John Lennon's Give Peace A Chance.
The song, which was scribbled on the back of an envelope during John Lennon's famous honeymoon bed-in with Yoko Ono, was due to go on sale at the famous action house Bonhams.
According to the Mirror, a mystery buyer has appeared at the last moment and arranged a private sale. The famous piece of music history, which has been estimated between £175,000 and £200,000, was sold for $427,000 (£250,000).
"The lyrics to Give Peace a Chance were withdrawn today following a private treaty sale arranged by Bonhams. (…)These historical lyrics were sold for a substantial undisclosed sum just prior to the sale to a private buyer who wishes to remain anonymous", a spokeswoman for Bonhams said.
Yoko Ono is rumored to have paid the huge amount for the classic 1969 anthem written at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal, Canada, as
Lennon and Yoko's protest against the Vietnam war.
