You have your Digital WiFi detector and you find the hotspot, but it appears that the security level is extremely low. You can connect to it, but you expose yourself too much and your laptop is full of confidential information. You need the strangely named Yoggie Gatekeeper, which gives you the same level of security enforced within your corporate network.

The hardened Linux-based OS Yoggie thingie packs over ten different security solutions that physically isolate the laptop from incoming Internet threats. Not too bad for a device that you plug into a USB slot.

For a better understanding of the technology behind the Yoggie Gatekeeper Pro, here's an excerpt from the site: "Two separate network cards provide a physical separation between the unsafe zone (Internet) and the safe zone (connected to your laptop). The device also includes two separate Flash memory units. One unit stores a secured copy of the Linux OS. During pre boot, Yoggie copies the OS onto the second unit, and uses it during runtime. The original copy of the OS, stored on the first unit, does not include any "Write Access" permissions. This double-step process, guarantees that in the event of a successful attack, upon rebooting the device a clean and safe version of the OS is uploaded, making the OS and security applications completely safe"

In other words, even if there's a successful attack on your computer, the device will take the full blow and upon rebooting it will be clean again.

Aside from the obvious benefits, corporations can also purchase the Yoggie Management Server, which extends the IT organization's ability to manage and enforce security to traveling laptops. Installed in the IT server room, it manages the fleet of traveling Yoggie Gatekeeper devices, providing security policy updates, signatures, and rule base updates, while obtaining local logs and events for complete visibility. The YMS also provides the organization's IT management with early warning of suspicious behavior through a proprietary technology that calculates the real-time risk level for every Yoggie Gatekeeper device.

Judging from the specifications, the A$350 (Australian dollars) priced Yoggie Gatekeeper Pro, compatible with some of the most popular notebooks, seems to be an excellent solution for the highest level of Wi-Fi security on the market.
